Having or not having children is one decision that each woman must make for herself.

When women are in committed relationships, they often share this decision with the man that they love. However, single women are on their own with this choice, which is probably exactly how they want it.

Whatever the case, the tubal ligation surgery that can be seen as the ultimate and final say in birth control is something that many choose, though they do change their minds at times. Not everyone can do this, but it can be common for women who have completed their families and are above a certain age.

Some call the tubal ligation procedure ‘having their tubes tied.’ This is very common when a woman has had at least two children and she knows that she is done with adding to her family. It does not really matter if she is single or married, at that point, most doctors will say that choice is up to them.

A younger woman that has yet to have any kids may be warned off doing the tubal ligation by their doctors, simply because they know how often such women end up changing their mind a few years down the road.

The tubal ligation technique is not without risk, but can be done immediately after the birth of the last child. Some get both out of the way all at once and that means they don’t have to have a separate hospital stay. It can cause problems, and some women have adverse health problems because giving birth and having the tubal ligation at the same time can strain the body.

Most doctors can easily tell when this will be the case, however, so really listen to what your doctor has to say when you are discussing the tubal ligations with them. Their goal is to keep you safe and happy if at all possible.

If you do have your tubes tied, and you change your mind in the future, it is possible to have the tubal ligation reversals, but not in all cases. Sometimes, the procedure is done by completely destroying all internal parts. In that case, there is nothing you can do.

However, there are times when the tubal ligation surgery is done in a way that it can be reversed in the future. What each woman wants will be up to her. If she thinks she wants it, but realizes there is a slim chance she may change her mind in the future, she will want the operation done so there is a possibility of reversal.

Remember, it may not even be possible in those cases. It’s always a risk, so think about it long and hard before going in.

We all make many decisions in our lives.

Each day we are faced with small decisions, what to wear, what to eat, how to prioritize our time and many other things. Decision making is a learned skill that we are taught from a very young age. As we get older and need to make major life decisions we automatically fall back on how we learned to make decisions.

This may not be a conscious part of our decision making, but it is there none the less. We make our decisions based on our values, beliefs and knowledge. Decisions are made with a combination of how we feel and what we think.

It is up to us to decide if our feeling or our knowledge has the greatest influence on us.

Not every decision we make is a life or death type of situation. But there are certain things that can have a profound effect on our lives.

One decision that women need to make that can have long lasting affects is birth control options. The obvious major affect in this area is whether to use any options for birth control. If making the choice not to use any, that decision may have a life long effect on the mother, father and resulting child.

On the other hand choosing to use one of the many birth control options for women involves using our belief and value systems. For women that have been raised in certain faiths, it is very guilt producing to use birth control options that have been presented as immoral.

One of the birth control effects is on the reproductive health of the woman. Most birth control methods are very safe and improvements are being made all the time on various contraceptives; however the bottom line is that most oral or injected birth control methods are going to change the woman’s natural cycle.

For the vast majority of women this is not an issue and once the method is no longer used the body returns to its natural cycle, however there are a few women that are not able to return to their cycle. There are also some women that cannot tolerate the hormones that are involved in the oral and injected methods.

For these women birth control devices make a better choice. The devices are less convenient and some do not lend well to spontaneity however the woman may feel better because hormone levels are not being messed with.

No mater what type of birth control options you decide to go with always be safe and remember that if you are not ready for the responsibility of a child do not have unprotected sex.
